The Omicron variant spreads more easily than earlier variants of the virus that cause Covid-19, including the Delta variant, and also has the ability to sometimes evade immunity from vaccines, previous infection, or both. The expansion will be operational in 2024. Currently approved Covid-19 vaccines are monovalent.
