Pre-Interview Tips for Pharmacy Professionals | Tip #2

with Tom Alig | Vice President of Staffing at Indispensable Health

I am Tom Alig, VP of Staffing with Indispensable Health. I’ve been recruiting pharmacists and pharmacy technicians since 2004, and I’ve seen the things good candidates do to separate themselves, and I’ve seen the mistakes that some candidates make.

This is the second in a series of short videos on pre-interview tips for pharmacy positions.

Today’s Tip: Be prepared

Your resume looks great. You nailed the cover letter and hit “send” to reply to that ad for a potential new job.

Now what?

Make sure you are prepared for when the phone rings!

Many times potential employers will respond to you via email, to set up a time for a phone screen. Sometimes they call you out of the blue.

Regardless, when it comes time for the call, be prepared. You need to know your stories, know what you have done, be able to give examples that highlight your accomplishments.

If it helps, rehearse what you will say in front of a mirror. Make sure you can talk about every line on your resume. It’s easy to forget about what you think is a minor detail on your resume, only for the phone screener to ask you about it!

Have a pen and paper nearby to take notes.

Turn off the TV. It is distracting to have a conversation about a potential job with the TV blaring in the background.

Use “yes” and “no” (instead of “yeah” and “nope”).

Have the conversation. As we talked about in our first pre-interview tip, this particular job may not be a fit right now, but perhaps the company has another position that is open or will have something that opens up in the coming weeks or months.

The bottom line: Be prepared.
