The U.S. pharmaceutical industry lobbying group did not exactly make good on its early August threat to hold Democrats “accountable” this fall after the caucus voted to let the government negotiate drug prices, STAT reports. The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America’s political action committee put $2,000 towards the New Democrat Coalition Action Fund on Aug. 22, just weeks after every member voted for the sweeping Inflation Reduction Act that includes an unprecedented move to let the federal government negotiate the prices of some of the country’s costliest medicines.
Johnson & Johnson is likely to make modest cuts to its workforce as a result of both economic pressures and in connection with the planned separation of its consumer-health business next year, The Wall Street Journal reports. The consumer business, which sells Tylenol and Band-Aids, will be called Kenvue. Various job functions will be affected, although specific numbers were not provided and there will not be a major restructuring, according to Joseph Wolk, the chief financial officer. The company, however, will continue to invest in research and development and hire new scientists, he maintained.
