And here is our regular feature in which we highlight a different person each week. This time around, we note that Alltrna hired Caroline Kӧhrer as vice president, discovery platform. Previously, she worked at Moderna, where she was director of RNA science. Before that, she spent 20 years as a research scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
But all work and no play can make for a dull scientist. So in her spare time, Kӧhrer is a devoted bookworm. “I love to read. I have a big thing for science fiction and fantasy. I have a book wherever I go. And if I can’t read physically, I’ll have an audio book with me… A lot of my friends are also keen readers, so we discuss books. We like to discuss the ‘What if?’ question – If magic was real, if there’s alien life.” A favorite author is Neil Gaiman, who writes what she calls “fairy tales for grown-ups.” “He tells stories about a person going through everyday life and then, all of a sudden, some magic happens… For me, science fiction is not about escaping. It poses questions that open up innovation.”
