Chutes & Ladders—Cleveland Clinic hires first chief analytics officer; Express Scripts exec to work with independent pharmacies

Albert Marinez has been named Cleveland Clinic’s first-ever chief analytics officer.

The newly created position will allow Marinez to partner with leaders throughout the Cleveland Clinic health system to empower data-driven strategies that improve patient care, reduce costs and support growth.

Marinez has led analytics and data science teams at large health systems and technology service providers for two decades, most recently serving as Chief Analytics Officer at Intermountain Health in Salt Lake City, Utah.

At Intermountain, he led data and analytics strategy for care delivery sites, launched the center of excellence for artificial intelligence and implemented a next-generation data analytics platform.


Express Scripts

Stephanie Smith Cooney, M.D. has been tapped by Express Scripts, the pharmacy benefit management business of The Cigna Group, as the company’s new senior director of independent pharmacy affairs.

She will work to support independent pharmacists in local communities by expanding benefits and increasing a range of preventive care services to lower costs. Cooney will also lead a newly established Independent Pharmacy Advisory Committee, which will convene a diverse group of pharmacy leaders across rural, urban and suburban areas.

The committee will focus on reimbursement practices, among other topics.

Cooney worked as an independent pharmacist for nearly 20 years, but most recently acted as a strategic consultant for independent pharmacy leaders.


Zerigo Health

Lisa Rometty has been announced as Zerigo Health’s newest CEO.

Rometty will lead Zerigo, a digital health platform for home treatment of skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema, to help the company continue to offer cost-effective alternatives to expensive biologics.

Zerigo combines its FDA-cleared handheld device with a smartphone app and a team of care providers.

In her former position at CVS Kidney Care, she led development of a unique approach to kidney disease identification, care management and home-first treatment. She also served as President – Global Solutions at Syneos Health, where she led strategy and global expansion of commercial partnerships.


> NYC Health + Hospitals promoted Ivelesse Mendez-Justiniano to vice president and chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer, leaving her previous role as chief learning officer and interim chief of diversity and inclusion.

> 340B Health elected Mike Loftus, the ministry 340B director-hospital pharmacy for St. Louis-based Mercy Health System, and Adrian Moran, chief medical officer at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee, to the board of directors.

> Tenet Healthcare appointed CEO Saum Sutaria to the board of directors, replacing Senator J. Robert Kerrey who previously held the role. Tenet also named Senator Roy Blunt to the board of directors as a member of the audit committee, nominating and corporate governance committee, and ESG committee. Tenet’s board is now comprised of 12 directors.

> Commonwealth Care Alliance, a mission-driven healthcare services organization, named Amy Helwig, M.D. as the group’s newest chief quality officer after serving as Executive Vice President of Commercial Health at RTI Health Advance, RTI International.

> Karius, a life sciences company that creates a liquid biopsy for infectious diseases, selected former Director of the National Cancer Institute Ned Sharpless and former Chief Procurement Officer and Head of Global Shared Services at Eli Lily Elizabeth O’Farrell to the board of directors.

> Collective Health, which offers a modern TPA integrating plan administration and navigation to deliver health benefits, tapped Kim Shepard as its next senior vice president of client success.

> CodaMetrix, an autonomous medical coding AI platform, announced Cathy Donohue as its next senior vice president of product.

> Impact Advisors, a healthcare management consulting firm, hired Mike Doyle as its new vice president, serving on the IT Advisory Enterprise Analytics team.
