UK pharma packaging giant Origin celebrates its 60th anniversary

13th FEBRUARY 2023, HULL, UK: Leading UK pharmaceutical packaging and solutions provider, Origin, is celebrating its 60th anniversary.
Origin was first established by pharmacist Stanley Holmes in 1963 from his home in Yorkshire, distributing glass bottles to pharmacies. Today, Origin is a world-leading designer, manufacturer and supplier of healthcare packaging solutions.
More recently, the company has also expanded into supply chain management and infrastructure facilities, helping clients across the globe to remain agile and protected against disruption.
Since 2008, Origin has occupied a purpose-built 50,000 square ft building in Melton, East Yorkshire. A cleanroom product facility adhering to ISO 7 and ISO 8 standards was added in 2017 and further developments led to a 89,000 square ft national distribution centre and fulfilment facility being opened in Scunthorpe in 2020.
The company continues to invest and expand its state-of-the-art machinery and tooling to provide best-in-class service to the pharmaceutical and wellness industries, specialising in ISO compliant primary packaging and innovative child-resistant design.
Origin’s breadth of operations reflects the complex and varied demands of its customers. Working with many of the world’s leading brand owners, Origin’s expert design team solves primary packaging challenges from concept to production, while DiD, Origin’s dedicated NPD function, continually researches and develops concepts and products.
Origin’s HP3 manufacturing model combines on site manufacturing with strategic cells located elsewhere, working with carefully selected partners to increase productivity and speed to market.
The company is also renowned for its innovative packaging technologies, including the child-safe MedoPac® and UnoPac® ranges of pre-capped tablet bottles with full UV traceability, and child-resistant jars for Medicinal Cannabis – a growing market in the UK and worldwide.
The latest addition to Origin’s ongoing service enhancement is a multi-million-pound investment programme at its Centre of Clinical Excellence for Pharmaceutical Packaging Design & Innovation, Strategic Production and Supply Chain Performance.
This major development has involved the design and installation of 7 aseptic filling facilities which strictly adhere to ISO 5 and ensure the reliable prevention and control of airborne particles.
Thanks to flexibility being integrated at its very core, Origin’s cleanroom can also supply small product runs for pharmaceutical and healthcare companies based around the world and deliver them on a global scale.
In recent years, Origin has also expanded into new markets with the launch of its sister brand Lifestyle Packaging in 2019, using its pharmaceutical and child-resistant expertise to serve new industries with quality and innovative packaging systems for products including CBD, e-liquid and aromatherapy.
Snappd was also launched in 2021, a design and filling service for single dose sachets with wide industry applications.
