Give it a go! (Kerry’s Ice Hockey)

Everyone’s journey with NF2 is different. No 2 cases are the same. The biggest problem we face is the ‘unknown’ and never knowing what’s around the corner for us. After being diagnosed and going through a whirlwind of emotions. I decided to start looking into new activities/hobbies to try, looking for something physical so that I could try and keep my body strong and active.
Ice hockey is something that I’d always wanted to try, but was never brave enough! In the pit of all the emotions that were trying to take over, I found the courage to give it a go and I am so, so happy I did. Fast forward a few years and I may not be the best player, I struggle with my balance sometimes. I struggle to hear people every now then, as part of NF2 I also suffer with double vision (seeing 2 pucks instead of 1 can be interesting!) but I have absolutely no regrets and it’s so much fun!
I believe that Ice Hockey actually helps with my balance, helping to keep my legs and core strong which is really important for people with NF2 and balance issues. I’ve met an incredible bunch of people who are my team mates and friends and I’m proud of myself for pushing myself out of my comfort zone despite the challenges I face.
