Pay deal averts strike action at GSK’s UK sites

Industrial action at several GlaxoSmithKline manufacturing plants in the UK has been called off, after an improved pay deal was accepted by the Unite union. Unite said last month it was calling for strike by GSK workers for the first time in the company’s history, saying a “derisory” 2.75% pay increase was in fact a pay cut in real terms given the rising rate of inflation in the UK, currently at around 9%.

AbbVie adds to Vraylar data as FDA considers depression use

AbbVie has reported new phase 3 data for its schizophrenia and bipolar disorder therapy Vraylar in treatment-resistant depression, as it waits for a decision by the FDA on the new indication. The drugmaker filed Vraylar (cariprazine) as an add-on to conventional antidepressant therapy in people with MDD who may be struggling to control symptoms using the antidepressant alone in February, with a decision expected by the end of the year.

Nymox slumps as FDA rejects filing for prostate drug

Shares in US biotech Nymox Pharma have plunged after the company announced the FDA had refused to accept its marketing application for its drug candidate for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a common condition affecting older men.
