In 2007, LegitScript was founded to create a safer and more transparent commercial internet. It offers a solution for certifying and classifying internet pharmacies and began partnering with major platforms in the e-commerce and payments spaces to help them mitigate risk and keep their platforms and merchants clean.
LegitScript launched Healthcare Merchant Certification in 2008 which was endorsed by The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy.
This certification program for pharmacies, for more than a decade now, has provided a recognized stamp of approval for the internet and payments companies that do business with them.
LegitScript Certification For Facebook Ads
Facebook, the social media giant, requires online pharmacies to go through a LegitScript certification process to support a pharmacy merchant account. This third party certification is strictly required especially when you run ads promoting prescription drugs.
Benefits of LegitScript Certification for Facebook Ads:
Participate in Online Advertising
With a LegitScript Certification, you can grow your pharmacy business by promoting your products or services on Facebook through Facebook Ads
Gain Patients’ Trust
If your pharmacy is verified by LegitScript, you let patients know that you operate safely and legally. And by using the LegitScript seal on your Facebook Ads, patients know that they can trust you, knowing that your business has been rigorously vetted
Adhere to Credit Card Requirements
Visa and Mastercard require all pharmacies and telemedicine providers that process card-not-present transactions to be certified and monitored by an approved certification organization, such as LegitScript. So you will not have any issues paying your Facebook ads if you’re using Visa or Mastercard.
Cost of Certification
LegitScript’s cost of certification has three tiers:

This category is for pharmacies with very limited internet presence, only accepting refills (but not new prescriptions) online. This includes:

This applies to pharmacies that only use social media such as Facebook
- Pharmacies that have a website that facilitates refills or transfers (but not new prescriptions), AND have only one dispensing location, license, or shipping jurisdiction
One-time Application Fee Per Website: $495 USD
Annual Fee Per Website: $995 USD
